Linda Lewis - Woman Overboard **** 1977

Damn nice work from Linda Lewis -- a set that almost has her settling down more as a soul singer than previous albums, shaking off some of the more crossover styles of her roots! Linda's got some very heavy help on the record -- as it features production from Allen Toussaint, Bert DeCoteaux, and Cat Stevens -- a surprising mix, but one that really helps make for a great sound in the set -- a nicely deep range, yet one that never sounds too disparate. Toussaint's tunes are especially nice, and often have this gently stepping groove that really works great with Linda's always-wonderful vocals -- almost the British equivalent of Minnie Riperton, sounding a bit like late 70s Minnie on these cuts. Titles include "You Came", "Shining", "Dreamer Of Dreams", "No 1 Heartbreaker", "Moon & I", "My Friend The Sun", "So Many Mysteries To Find", and "Light Years Away". CD also features 5 bonus tracks too -- "Winter Wonderland", "Can't We Just Sit Down & Talk It Over", "All Comes Back To Love", "Flipped Over Your Love", and "Never Been Done Before".
